Beyond Theonomy
Rick Davis on Recovering Natural Law
So, you believe Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth, that nations should obey His commands, that abortion, adultery, and pornography should be outlawed, and that nativity scenes belong on courthouse lawns but not idols? You must be a theonomist! Brother, if that’s what theonomy means, then sign me up and put me on the front line. I love God’s law, every bit of it.
Unfortunately, as we’re all suiting up for the mission, someone in the barracks is bound to ask, “Wait a minute. Are you really a theonomist, or are you one of those natural law guys? Are you for Vermigli or Van Til, Buchanan or Bahnsen, Rutherford or Rushdoony, Junius or Jordan?” Before you know it, the soldiers who had all recently agreed about how to engage the culture are pointing their guns at each other on social media and at conferences.
